Starr Council disagree about bonds

Oxnard—The City of Oxnard’s 2025-2026 budget coverage continues with Council Member Aaron Starr saying that Oxnard is the only City to fix its streets, while the other Cities don’t.

The upcoming budget proposes a conservative budget with a 3.3 percent revenue and expense increase, which was expected to be approximately $8 million.

In comments after the meeting, City Manager Alex Nguyen said the budget is approximately the seventh positive budget.

“They’re paying for it, which means they don’t have the interest expense,” Starr said. “That means more money is available down the road for other services. The reason why we have so much trouble with our finances over the long haul, no matter how much money we raise our taxes, there is never enough.”

He said people he knows make a lot of money, yet they’re always broke.

“That’s on them and how their spending habits are,” Starr said. “I know people who make very little money, and they save up like crazy. It’s all about how you approach things, but if you go into debt, you wind up with debt-serving costs that are going to indenture our kids and grandkids for generations, and there is less money available…
