Station 3 Car Show propels OPD DRAGG Program

Oxnard--The Fourth Annual Oxnard Police Department DRAGG (Drag Racing Against Gangs and Graffiti) Car Show was a hugely successful event Sunday, August 28, as the crowd enjoyed around 150 cool cars, music, food, and plenty of positive interaction

The show benefits the DRAGG Program, an after-school mentoring class run by the Oxnard Police Department that teaches high-paying skills in auto mechanics and instills a positive aspect for kids looking for a great path forward.

Retired Oxnard Police Commander Randy Latimer is President of the Non-Profit DRAGG Program Board of Directors and is ecstatic to lead the kids.

“We put a lot of work in all year with our kids, with the community, and with our board to bring things like this back to our community,” he said. “It’s a partnership with the community, the Police Department, and youth. We make sure that we’re together.”

For too long, he said they weren’t together with the Low Rider and Car Community, which was an adversarial relationship.

 

“We’ve finally been able to bridge that gap and work together on something and bring it back to our community and have a safe, fun afternoon,” he said.
