Port Hueneme--During its Monday, May 20 meeting, the City Council unanimously approved an 18-month demonstration installation of Stop Signs for multi-way stop control at Ponoma Street intersecting with Clara and B Street.
In May 2023, a resident complained about the lack of sight distance when entering Ponoma Street from intersecting streets and stated vehicles are parked far too close to the intersections, blocking a driver’s view and leading to potential collisions.
City Manager James Vega said the item fits.
“Part of what we’re trying to do, knowing these changes are coming, that some of these State mandates are coming,” he said. “We’re starting to look proactively at some things that we might have to start thinking about a little differently.”
For example, he said that as units are added to properties and the State allows lot splits, the City will see impacts on parking.
“We’re going to start seeing sort of State-mandated densification,” he said. “We wanted to start looking proactively at that, and our Public Works Department, Mr. Stewart, and I have met and talked about some of the impacts and are coming up with some ideas.”
