Stormwater diversion studied

Oxnard-- The Public Works and Transportation Committee, Tuesday, March 8, received a report about the stormwater diversion into the Oxnard Wastewater Treatment Plant (OWTP) for recycled water use.

Wastewater Division Manager Jan Hauser presented the video to the committee, and he said diverting stormwater will increase the recycled water volumes.

He noted there were a couple of questions asked about this issue at the January 4 city council meeting. These included whether or not it is feasible to pump or divert stormwater into the sanitary sewer to increase the volume of treated wastewater available for the production of recycled water at the AWPF (Advanced Water Purification Facility) and if the city has a policy about using greywater systems. “The current AWPF is designed to treat 6.5 million gallons per day, and to do that, it needs 8 million gallons of treated wastewater as its input,” he said. “The other 1.7 million gallons is reject water or wastewater that is then conveyed to our ocean outflow mixed with the treated wastewater effluent and sent to the ocean.”
