Oxnard--The City Council Tuesday, September 19, approved the second amendment to agreement A-8230 for City-wide street sweeping services.
The services include alleyways, parking lots and structures, and City facilities, extending the term from October 1, 2023, until June 30, 2024, and increasing the contract total to $2.050 million but not to exceed $3.850 million.
Environmental Resources Division Manager Eric Zetz presented the item and asked for a $1.292 million budget request from the general fund for the Public Works Department for the appropriation.
“In August 2022, Assembly Bill 1886 expanded the definition of public works to include street sweeping, as defined, maintenance performed for the routine cleaning of any publicly owned street,” he said.
The State Department of Industrial Relations published the current rate, $91.25 per hour, on July 1, 2023, he said, which increases by $4 per hour to $95.25 on July 1, 2024.
“Prior to Assembly Bill 1886, the average wage for a street sweeper driver ranged between $25 to $35,” Zetz said. “The City of Oxnard outsources all street sweeping services, including city-wide streets, alleyways, parking lots, and city facilities.”
