Oxnard—In his Tuesday, September 2, report to the City Council, City Manager Alex Nguyen said Ventura County is doing important work in Oxnard.
“There will be a temporary road closure on North Ventura Road, between Stone Creek Drive and Wagon Wheel Road,” he said. “There will be appropriate signage for the detours. This begins on September 8 and continues through October 17. They are doing very important work and building up the levee to protect our neighborhoods in the event of flooding.”

Fire Chief Alex Hamilton said September is Suicide Prevention Month.
“If you have a family member in crisis, call or text 988, or text talk to 741741,” he said. “In the US, more than half of suicides are by firearm.
“Suicide by firearm is incredibly lethal,” he said. Of the people who shot themselves, 90 percent died. This is a uniquely American problem.
He said ways to minimize the risk include storing firearms unloaded and locked.
“Store and lock ammunition separately from firearms, ensure the key and combination are inaccessible to the person in crisis, and temporarily remove firearms from someone’s home,” he said.
