Ventura--The Board of Supervisors Tuesday, January 9, unanimously approved a five-signature letter advocating disaster relief for the impacted communities of Port Hueneme, Oxnard, and Ventura because of unprecedented weather events.
Supervisors Matt LaVere and Vianey Lopez brought the item forward, and Lopez said the two supervisors provided a letter describing the situation, bringing them to request support.
“Our entire board will submit a letter to CAL OES Director Nancy Ward requesting assistance with disaster relief,” Lopez said. “I’m not the expert, but I do want to take a moment to acknowledge all our public safety and law enforcement, especially through our Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Fryhoff, our Emergency Services Director, Patrick Maynard, who responded the night of December 21, (the night the storm occurred) and had been working through the holidays as we look to the recovery effort in the cities of Port Hueneme, Oxnard, and Ventura.”
LaVere said the First Responders were beyond heroic on the night of December 21, dealing with a once-in-a-10,000-year storm event.
