Ventura-- On a split vote, the Board of Supervisors approved redesigned seal 4, with “est. 1873 in the image ribbon, as the county’s new image.
The vote had some controversy, as Supervisor Kelly Long motioned to extend the outreach and public comments about the new seal, which was seconded. She asked for a vote, but a vote was not taken.
A substitute motion was made to adopt design 4, and the Board was advised that it could vote on the substitute motion first.
“The substitute motion would be acted on before the main motion,” County Counsel Tiffany North said.
“I asked for the vote, but it was ignored,” Long said. “For the record, I think it’s extremely important that we do public outreach on this, thank you.”
Public Information Officer Ashley Bautista said the Board approved moving forward to consider an updated county seal on October 12, 2021, and they launched the survey for the seal on April 26, 2022, and the survey closed on May 17.
“We had over 15,700 responses to the survey,” she said. “There were 79 uploads from community members.”
She said the county’s social media reach combined totaled 600,000.
