Ventura—The Board of Supervisors, Tuesday, February 10, issued a proclamation honoring February as Black History Month.
Supervisor Vianey Lopez presented the item, and she said it’s a time to recognize the Black and African American Community in Ventura County and highlight a few organizations doing work today.
“In no specific order, I want to start with 99.3 F.M., an independently owned Black Radio Station in Ventura County, dedicated to serving the needs of historically underserved audiences, and empowers content that promotes cultural awareness and civic engagement, serving as a vital platform and heartbeat,” she said.
Dr. Vincent Stewart spoke on behalf of 99.3, and he thanked the Supervisors for the proclamation.
“The radio station, 99.3, is owned by the Community Advocacy Coalition,” he said. “We are a group that is trying to reach out and handle advocacy issues, education, related to health, and legal.”
In the past, he said, they empowered their young people in elected positions, and those interested in entering and becoming elected.
