Ventura—The Board of Supervisors declared January 30 through February 6 as Earned Income Tax Awareness Week (EITAW)in Ventura County.
The item, brought forward by Supervisor Vianey Lopez, invited Mitchell Sloan, President and CEO of United Way of Ventura County, as well as Leo Alvarado, to share what the awareness week is all about.
“It’s a pleasure to be here and receive this special acknowledgement of the Cal EITA week,” Sloan said. “It goes to our most vulnerable in our area, and it raises awareness about State and Federal tax credits.”
The tax credits put vital dollars into the economy, and he said that money goes into the pockets of those who need it most.
“It helps with rent, childcare, transportation, it puts food on the table, and other essential needs,” he said. “Last year, the VITA Program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) prepared 1,987 returns, garnering over $2.1 million in refunds for our County residents in Ventura County in 2025.”
This included $827,000 in EITC money and $127,000 in CAL EITC.
