THE event featured 72 participants and raised more than $3,000 to combat PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), Anxiety, and Depression that Veterans, Active duty, First Responders, and Gold Star Families who lost someone who died serving in the military face every day “by giving them a day of Fishing, Interacting, Sharing, and Healing at no cost.”
The Veterans also enjoyed a fishing competition with a $200 grand prize and a SWAG Bag of items they could use.
Mission Fish Secretary Jessica Barber sold Mission Fish T-Shirts and hats to raise money for the veterans for $20.
“That goes back to taking the veterans out fishing,” she said. “We get donations from people who want to donate to our cause. We have a supplier who provides the apparel at a minimal cost.”
She said Mission Fish has been beneficial to her husband, Mission Fish President Brian Barber, who is a Marine.
“I’ve seen him develop outside of his comfort zone, being so shy and keeping to himself,” Jessica said. “When he’s around other Veterans, he opens up more.”
