Oxnard—During a special City Council meeting on Tuesday, October 8, the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center’s Citywide results on the well-being of young Oxnard adults offered plenty of information, data, and challenges.
“We will have many work sessions in the future where we focus on preparing plans and solutions; work will require multiple partnerships throughout the community,” City Manager Alex Nguyen said.
Nguyen introduced Professor Veronica Terriquez, the Daughter of Mexican immigrants, born and raised in Los Angeles County.
“She is now a sociologist whose research focuses on social inequity, civic engagement, health, and youth transitions to adulthood among Latin X and other diverse populations,” Nguyen said. “She brings to her work extensive experience working with a broad range of community stakeholders, having partnered with youth, labor, arts, education, and local Government institutions.”
He said her research agenda seeks to respond to contemporary political, economic immigration, and social crises that affect Latin X and similarly affected situations.
