Channel Islands-- The Concerts by the Sea Series continued with a rocksolid and bluesy performance by Teresa Russell Saturday, August 6.
RUSSELL displayed brilliant guitar skills, as her ceiling shattering work makes her the only female guitarist qualifying “in the top eight for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame/Guitar Center’s lead guitar competition, Guitarmageddon national finals.”
She played Blues, Rock, and original tunes the crowd loved, danced to, and screamed for more.
Russell started listening to Jimi Hendrix play The Blues at age 10 and was drawn to the guitar.
“He was my first guitar love ever,” Russell said. “I was listening to The Beatles and picking stuff up, but when Jimi Hendrix came out, I was learning everything from ‘Foxy Lady’ to ‘Watchtower,’ to ‘Purple Haze.’ I was 10-11 years old, learning my first guitar licks from him.”
She was also influenced by legends like Santana, Eric Clapton, and many more.
Russell started playing Channel Islands Harbor over 20 years ago at Peninsula Park and noted it is her favorite gig of all time.
