Oxnard--Members of the Oxnard Police Department traded in their badges for aprons Thursday, April 25, as Tip-a-Cop 2024 at Lazy Dog at Riverpark featured officers serving customers delicious hot dinners and salads and collecting tips to support the upcoming Torch Run on June 6, and Special Olympics.
THE officers received excellent training from the servers. The evening turned into a happy event, and everyone left smiling because their generosity would pay plenty of dividends.
Oxnard Police Department Community Affairs Manager Paul Carganilla said Tip-a-Cop is a longstanding department tradition.
“The Management here at Lazy Dog is so helpful and welcomed us here this evening,” he said. “We’re not taking any money from the servers, but as the Officers get to meet with the community and spend some time getting to know the Special Olympics athletes, you ask for donations for the Special Olympics.”

Senior Police Services Officer Lupita Avila loves the event.
“It allows me, as a non-sworn, to do things with the community and the Special Olympics Athletes,” she said. “We chose Lazy Dog because Lazy Dog has had Autism fundraisers in the past. We wanted somewhere where they knew the meaning of what we’re doing today.”
