Updated grants procedure ok’d

Oxnard-- The Finance and Governance Committee Tuesday, September 26, approved a resolution updating its grant application procedures.

Deputy City Manager Shiri Klima presented the item and said the grant procedure hasn’t been updated since 2001, and it currently takes six weeks for a grant to come before the Council.

“That’s because we go to committees first and also because of the Sunshine Ordinance,” she said. “These are great measures that allow our residents and participants to participate in our government more than shorter time frames; however, when a grant comes out and has a quick turnaround time, it poses a problem for us.”

She said there is no urgency option in the current resolution regarding applying for grants.

“We don’t want to forego these grant opportunities, so we’re bringing this update to the Grants Resolution,” Klima said.

The current resolution allows the staff to apply for grants up to $100,000 with no matching funds or ongoing additional operating costs, she said, and everything else must come before the City Council for the grant application.
