Oxnard--The City Council unanimously adopted, on first reading by title only, an urgency ordinance of a section amending a section of the City Code allowing just-cause, no-fault evictions resulting in demolition or substantial remodeling of a property during a Thursday, January 25, special meeting.
The Council also approved an amendment to the Oxnard City Code regarding no-fault, just-cause evictions occurring as a result of a demolition or substantial remodel.
The ordinance will be adopted on Tuesday, February 6, and take effect 30 days later.
The meeting drew a large crowd, filling the council chambers with Via Oxnard residents facing eviction.
An urgency ordinance authorizes “the adoption of an urgency ordinance for the immediate preservation of public peace, health, or safety with a four-fifths vote of the City Council and can include but not limited to the City experiencing a housing affordability and homeless crisis.
