Velocity agreement approved

Oxnard--The Public Works & Transportation Committee Tuesday, October 10, approved an agreement with Velocity Truck Centers to repair and maintain Autocar refuse trucks, Allison Transmissions, Freightliner Trucks, Detroit, and Cummins Engines.

Fleet Services Manager Jose Arreola presented the item and told the committee the agreement is for one year, with an option to extend the agreement for four consecutive one-year periods. The contract’s total will not exceed $1.250 million.

The agreement will be on an on-call basis as needed and will begin in the 2023-24 Fiscal Year, and there are sufficient funds in the Fleet Services Fund to meet the operating budget.

“The Fleet Services Division of the Public Works Department performs maintenance and repairs on the City’s 959 fleet vehicles and equipment, valued at over $52 million,” he said. “The City’s fleet consists of 78 Autocar refuse trucks, six Freightliner Dump Trucks, and 25 apparatus that have Allison Transmissions, and a mixture of Cummins and Detroit Engines.”

He said the Fleet Division performs maintenance on the majority of the vehicles; it requires a vendor to provide as-needed repairs and overflow maintenance to minimize downtime.
