Oxnard-- The Water Cost of Service Report, presented to the Public Works & Transportation Committee Tuesday, November 22, continues with threats to the water system. As everyone is aware, climate change can mean drier droughts and wetter wet periods.
“We have very old infrastructure and a Capital Improvements Program to replace a lot of the aging infrastructure, mostly cast-iron pipelines,” Assistant Public Works Director Joseph Marcinko said. “Another threat is the Global Supply Chain issues. As a function of Covid, there are very long lead times, well over a year, on some larger parts like pumps and motors.”
He said the rising equipment and supply costs are another threat. “Another byproduct of Covid is that costs are constantly going up,” he said. “Chemical costs are one that I’ve seen double and are going even higher. We have to be able to meet those new challenges and threats and raise our costs accordingly.”
