Well restoration Project OK’d

Ventura—During the December 16 City Council meeting, the body approved a professional services agreement with Kennedy Jens Consultants for engineering design services on well repair and restoration of its intake structure project.

Public Works Department Principle Civil Engineer Greg Knudsen presented the report, and he said Assistant Public Works Director and Associate Civil Engineer joined him for the presentation.

“We’re presenting an agreement for the design and intake structure in Foster Park on the Ventura River,” Knudsen said.

The Ventura River subsurface dam, he said has subsurface collector pipes, and an intake structure, as well as, perforated surface pipes, and intake structures constructed in the early 1900s, located within the regulatory floodway.

“The river channel shifted easterly during the 2005 storms making access difficult at moderate flows and impossible at high flows,” he said. “The intake structure was constructed in the early 1900s and is located within a regulatory floodway of the Ventura River.”

“The intake structure has not functioned since 2022, when pumps failed following an extended shutdown, “he said. “The intake structure lost electrical power following damage during the January 2023 flood event.”
