Oxnard—During its Tues. Jan. 14, meeting, the Finance & Governance Committee received its latest quarterly report.
The City Council approved a Whistleblower Policy in 2016 and stated it would take all appropriate steps to evaluate any allegation of improper Governmental Action brought to its attention.
Improper Governmental Action is defined as “Any local agency or Employee that’s undertaken in the performance of an Employee’s official duties deemed to be outside the scope of his or her employment that violates any Local, State, or Federal Law or regulation relating to corruption, malfeasance, bribery, theft of Governmental property, or willful omission to perform duty, is economically wasteful, or involves gross misconduct.
Project Manager Annie Jensen presented the update and said the complaints are confidential and the complainant’s identity may not be revealed without the complainant’s permission, except to an appropriate Law Enforcement Agency conducting a criminal investigation.
“The City’s internal auditor, Vasquez, and Company, may investigate the facts alleged in the report to determine whether an improper Governmental action occurred,” she said. “The internal auditor will screen first to determine merit and relevance, followed by the possible risk to the City.”
