Wilson Center seniors love great lunches

Oxnard—The crowd at the Wilson Senior Center starts getting excited during the late morning each day, because they’re about to eat a great lunch.

THE kitchen is filled with the aroma of the day’s special, which is nutritious, low-sodium, and designed to be diabetes-friendly.

Martha Gonzalez leads the team of cooks, and she said the menu includes Shrimp Salsa Verde, accompanied by fruit, salad, and milk.

Coffee is served from 9-11 each morning for the happy Seniors.

“We serve a really healthy lunch,” she said. “We get here at about 8:30 a.m., and the first thing we do is start the coffee. At about 12:30 p.m., we usually finish for the day.”

After the 11:30 lunch, Martha said the happy family can relax and enjoy everything the Wilson Senior Center offers.

“They can play Loteria, play pool, do some exercise, and take classes,” she said. “There are activities for everyone.”

On Tuesday, she said the Cowboy Chili has beans with meat.

“Tomorrow’s lunch is great,” she said.

Elena Romero likes word search, and she eats lunch almost daily.

“I like to bring my lunch, because I have problems with my stomach,” she said. “I love it when they serve…
