Oxnard--The Bike and Pedestrian improvements story continues with cues the City can give drivers along with the placement of its new radar feedback placements.
PUBLIC Works Director Michael Wolfe said Oxnard uses a traditional setup, utilizing engineering, education, and enforcement by the Oxnard Police Department to manage its system.
He said public awareness and education can be encapsulated in a social media campaign talking about DUI issues for residents.
“We can shorten the crosswalks, making it a straight crossing rather than a diagonal crossing or off-centered crossing so we can shorten the distance to get pedestrians across the street much faster,” he said. “You see this in a lot of projects, which have ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Ramp improvements, making sure that we have the right path of travel to be able to get folks that may not be easily accessible to get them different ways across the street through things like ramps.”

He noted that separated bikeways allow them to separate bicycle pedestrians from vehicle traffic, resulting in a better outcome.
