Oxnard-- The City Council, Tuesday, July 20, received an update on Campus Park design.
THE City acquired the former Oxnard High School site in 1995 with a future goal of re-orienting the site toward downtown, neighborhoods, and other key civic organizations.
The City applied for and received an $8.5 million Proposition 68 grant for the design and park construction.
MIG and M6 presented the item, and Senior Architect and Project Manager Jose de Jesus Leal from MIG said the project objectives are activating the Park through its funded phase, expressing the natural, cultural, and historic Oxnard Landscape, reconnecting the Park to the community fabric and adjacent neighborhoods, maximize grant funding, consolidate program elements, and deliver revitalized Campus Park by March 2024.
“I wish the park will serve as the expression of the natural, cultural, and historic landscape in Oxnard,” he said. “The Park is meant to reconnect the site to the community. We’re also looking to maximize this initial investment by consolidating program elements for maximum impact.”
He said the Park is surrounded by many assets, including the Oxnard Adult School, houses of worship, Fire Station 1, and various established neighborhoods.
