Community Development Block Grants returned

Oxnard—During its Tuesday, Dec. 3, meeting, the City Council approved its Community Development Block Grants remittance.

THE Community Development Block Grants support community development activities that build stronger, resilient communities, including infrastructure, economic development, community centers, housing rehabilitation, public services, clearance and acquisition, and homeowner assistance.

Oxnard receives approximately $2.1 million.

Housing Department Director Emilio Ramirez said open findings are determined based on ineligible expenses, not lifesaving, where HUD (Department of Housing and Urban Development) seeks funds.

“The Grants Department funding that we believe are eligible, and the court determined they are not eligible,” he said. “They deemed them not to be a lifesaving measure.”

The City needs to repay $363,084, and HUD agreed to close these findings upon remittance back to Oxnard’s Community Development Block Grant line of credit with HUD.

“This includes program administration and a modest amount of Police Community Cameras in a modest amount of $1,800,” he said. “There is also a purchase of a Mobile Command Truck for the Fire Department, Paramedic support, fire alerting system, jaws of life, mold data equipment, and a Fire Truck. They’re saying these things: Police and Fire items are not lifesaving measures and are not eligible.”
