Oxnard--The Community Services, Public Safety, Housing & Development Committee awarded an agreement to Dudek to prepare a Local Coastal Program (LCP) Amendment during its Tuesday, January 23, meeting.
THE California Coastal Act was passed in 1976, requiring California’s local governments to prepare and implement local coastal programs to protect natural and man-made coastal resources and maximize public access to the shorelines.
Community Development Principal Planner Jasmine Kim presented the amendment, which defines LCPs as planning documents used by local governments in coordination with the California Coastal CommisTRI sion to guide development in the coastal zone.
“It must be in conformance with the California Coastal Act requirements reflecting the unique community characteristics of the jurisdiction,” she said. “The local coastal plans should also contain rules and regulations for future development and protection of coastal resources by specifying appropriate location type scale or new or changed uses.”
She said the Local Coastal Plan contains the land use plan and the local implementation plan, chapter 17 of the City’s code.
“These two documents reflect the City’s Local Coastal Program and a substantial degree of amendments that are anticipated,” Kim said.
