Oxnard—Community Center Park East was a whirlwind of activity on Saturday, April 20, as the Earth Day Celebration brought community members together to focus on saving Oxnard neighborhoods and beyond.
KIDS learned about exhibits demonstrating the presence of plastics polluting the waterways, along with resource tables, music, and food trucks. Plenty of youth enjoyed the day with members of the Oxnard Police Department.
Youth Coalition of Oxnard Project Director Patricia Lau-Cho brought the BRITE youth to the park to help with cleaning up and making Hobson Park East look great.
“BRITE does youth development around Ventura County,” she said. “Today, I have the Oxnard team, and we offer youth ages 14-25 to come out and learn life skills.”
She said they offer creative art activities to youth and help them find employment.
“Today, we have youth in high school and college here in Oxnard, and everything is free,” she said. “They learn mentoring skills because they get to work with grade school children, and it also gives them employment skills to put on their resumes.”

She loves Oxnard.
