Fire goals updated

Oxnard—During his Tuesday, March 11, Public Safety, Housing & Development meeting, Fire Chief Alex Hamilton updated the Council about prevention inspections.

THE City had a busy 2024, with 21,719 service calls up slightly, 763 fires, 34,290 responses up slightly, and 16,830 medical incidents.

“Some calls require a single engine, but if a resident has a structure fire, you’re going to need four engines, two Ladder Trucks, and Battalion Chiefs,” he said. “There were 125 structure Fires; the vast majority of calls are medical incidents.”

He said the traditional fire operations have lights and sirens, but Hamilton said support services cover business Administration, activity, training, and other things.

“Fire Prevention roles include enforcement of Fire and Life Safety Codes, Hazardous Material Regulation, construction review and inspection, arson and inspections, and public inspections,” he said. “Senate Bill 1205 came into effect after the Ghost Ship Fire in Oakland took 36 lives and mandates reporting to the elected body once a year.”

He said Multi-unit apartment Residential Inspections, including Residential Care Units were conducted.
