Oxnard-- The Oxnard Police Department’s update to the city council continues with the Department using additional funding to purchase additional speed display boards to reduce speeding in the city.
“THE speed display board offers an alternative method to increase community awareness about speeding and gain voluntary compliance with speed limits,” Police Chief Jason Benites said. “This is often referred to, in some circles, as a traffic calming device. These devices also collect traffic volume and speed data and help us with assessing where we need to enforce.”
He said the speed display boards assist with reducing collisions and increase speed awareness in the community.
“Two display boards are currently mounted, Oxnard Boulevard, South of Roderick Avenue, and at Gonzales Road, East of Snow Avenue,” he said.
Firearms continue to be a growing community concern, he said, as the proliferation of guns in society continues.
“I really want to speak here about ghost guns,” he said. “Ghost guns are unregulated firearms that anyone, including minors and prohibited purchasers, can buy and build without having to go through a background check.
