Harbor Fine Arts Festival IS CREATIVE JOY

Channel Islands-- Harbor Landing was the creative mecca for all to enjoy Saturday and Sunday, July 9 and 10, as the 2022 Channel Islands Harbor Fine Arts Festival was full of beautiful works of art that everyone appreciated.

THE event featu­red 45 artists dis­playing origi­nal fine arts and crafts in all mediums.

Attendees could purchase artwork made from clay, glass, jewelry, mixed media, paintings, photography, metal, and sculpture.

One of the more creative artists who featured art created by repurposed old American Flags was David Schwartz, who featured Patriotic Paintings created from his repurposed Flags.

Schwartz said it all began 21 years ago when he rescued nine American Flags out of a trash bag. Now, people from all over the world send him flags which he creates into art with a positive and uplifting message.

“I try to use the provenance to tie into the painting,” he said.

 

One creation inclu­des a photo of 95-year-old Commander Steve Sherman gifting Schwartz a Flag.

“His best friend was Dorie Miller, the hero of Pearl Harbor, who received the Navy Cross for his act of heroism when he shot down three Zeros,” Schwartz said. “He recently received the Medal of Honor.”
