Heritage Square surplus properties sale tabled

Oxnard—The City Council tabled declaring three parcels in downtown Heritage Square surplus land during its Tuesday, May 21 meeting.

THE item will come back with a study about developing a public restroom at the site.

Housing Director Emilio Ramirez presented the item and said Heritage Square is a redevelopment act relocating 15 historic homes from throughout the City to the square bounded by B Street on the west, Seventh Street to the north, H Street to the East, and Eighth Street to the south.

He said the City owns the Pump House (Visitor Center), the Chapel, which is used for events, and the Winery, which is empty.

“The City owns the three structures at Heritage Square, and those three structures have suffered through a significant amount of deferred maintenance, and they’re in bad condition,” he said. “In order to sell or lease the City-owned properties, the City has to first go through a process to declare them surplus, meaning they are not necessary for agency use.”

 

He said the Surplus Land Act defines surplus land as a formal process for notifying available surplus lands, negotiating steps, and eventual disposition.
