Homeless Commission debate Continues

Oxnard—The City Council’s story about keeping the Homeless Commission continues with Mayor Luis McArthur suggesting that the City keep the Commission, and trying it out for one year, considering there are only four people up here on the Council.

"THERE are very few meetings, and we can come back to this Council, reassess, and collectively agree that it’s not working, at least it can allow us to try it,” he said.

Mayor Pro Tem Gabe Teran asked if it could become a receive-and-file Committee and become a receive-and-file and budget advisory committee, and Mayor McArthur likened it to a Public Relations committee.

“This will lessen the frequency of their meetings and become a receipt and file body where the Mayor can provide you insight into what you gained at the County level, and have technical experts in the field of homelessness receive presentations,” he said. “This way, it engages directly with the Community. It’s important to our community.”

He said it’s the partnership with the community that makes it special.
