Oxnard-- The Finance & Governance Committee, Tuesday, January 25, approved a purchasing authorization with Insight Public Sector Incorporated.
THE agreement will benefit the city’s computer network infrastructure and shall not exceed $770,000 over a two-year period.
Network infrastructure refers to all hardware, and software services and facilities of a computer network that makes network or internet connectivity, management business operations, and communications possible.
City of Oxnard Chief Information Officer Helen Miller presented the item to the committee, and she said the city’s current network is comprised of over 200 physical components that support the delivery of resident services across 27 city sites.
“In October 2019, the council approved the network infrastructure refresh funding to replace and upgrade unsupported and unsecured hardware components,” she said. “At that time, the average age of network equipment was 12 years old. The current state in the two years since that approval, IT (Information Technology) has replaced and upgraded portions of the network, embracing current modern network design and architectural concepts and reduced the average equipment age from 12 to six years old. This is a 50 percent improvement; however, there are still network components as old as 10 years.”
