Mixed comments liven water rate discussion

Oxnard--The public comments about the City’s approved price rate increase start with Barbara Macri-Ortiz, who said the water rates are an important City issue.

THE Council approved the increase on May 2, which increases the average single-family residential bill from $ 50.39 to $62.65. Multi-families will increase from $91.41 to $108.77.

“We have a major water system we have to deal with, and we have the responsibility to upkeep it, and we’re also seeing the rates for the water itself going up everywhere because we have problems,” Macri-Ortiz said. “We don’t have the kind of water we used to have. I’m speaking in favor of this because all our rates for everything have gone up, and nobody says anything. Nobody can say anything.”

She noted that her cable bill went up by 30 percent, and it’s crazy but said everyone needs to recognize they need to take care of the City.

“We have to take care of our water system ourselves, if and if we don’t take care of it, then we’re going to end up like some of these other cities, and I don’t think we want to go with everyone having to get bottled water,” she said.
