New Traffic Signs Installed

Oxnard— The City of Oxnard recently installed signs prohibiting trucks over 5 tons from traveling along Oxnard Boulevard south of Gonzales Road.

THE signs accompany “Truck Route” signs in place for several years. Section 8-3(A) of the Oxnard City Code designates Oxnard Boulevard, between Wooley Road and Gonzales Road, as a light-traffic street, and Section 8-3(B) OCC prohibits commercial trucks greater than 5 tons to travel along light traffic streets in Oxnard. Several roadways in Oxnard are designated as Truck Routes, where commercial vehicles can safely and legally reach their destination.

There are some exceptions, such as deliveries along Oxnard Boulevard. Failure to obey a traffic sign, section 21461(a) California Vehicle Code, may result in a point on your DMV record and an approximate $234 fine. The Oxnard Police Department encourages commercial drivers to use tools, such as trucker GPS devices, to navigate the roadways of Oxnard and beyond safely.

Public Works Director Michael Wolf says they reached out to 20 of the contractors on some items.

“Reaching out to more vendors provides more bids; that’s not always the case,” he said. “There are certain limited contractors that do this type of work. Some are niche activities.”
