OPD updates the City Council

Oxnard-- The city council, Tuesday, April 5, received an update from the Oxnard Police Department about police activity going on in the city.

POLICE Chief Ja­son Benites pre­sented the report, and he mentioned that April is Autism Acceptance Month.

“We are promoting Autism awareness and Autism acceptance during this month,” he said.

The department’s officers wear a special Autism patch throughout the month.

“Look to see a number of events related to this that we’ll be participating in,” he said.

He noted that it’s a city council priority to maintain the 911 emergency response time and restore community policing.

“Our big three priorities are community safety, community engagement, and maintaining a culture of success,” he said. “When we speak of community safety, we are dealing primarily with matters related to crime, traffic, community policing, and neighborhood problem-solving efforts. Community engagement is our effort to maintain dialogue, communication, and relationships with our community by providing a number of positive interactions as well as providing information to our community to keep them aware of what’s going on.”
