Oxnard Prepared for Disasters

Oxnard—In his Tuesday, September 16, report to the City Council, City Manager Alex Nguyen began by inviting Emergency Preparedness Services to update the Council.

EMERGENCY Ma­na­ger Candy Cam­bell is with the Ox­nard Fire Department and said National Emergency Preparedness Month is very special.

“Community enga­ge­ment is essential here in Oxnard, and we are wor­king diligently in our com­munity to improve our outreach,” she said. “So far, in 2025, we have conducted 27 presentations in the community, and we participated in 16 events and we have reached close to 1,200 community members.”

All City Staff are Disaster Service Workers; she said it’s essential to know what that means when called to duty in a catastrophic event.

“We built a training program for all City Staff to take and over 900 members have taken that,” she said. “They are ready to serve the community during disasters.”

She remains committed to the Emergency Response Team and has trained 48 community members in English and Spanish.
