Ramirez’s passing leaves hole on Board of Supervisors

Oxnard-- The coverage of the Candlelight Vigil for fallen Ven­­tura County Super­visor Carmen Rami­rez continues with Supervisor Matt LaVere, who said Carmen’s passing leaves a hole on the Board of Super­visors. Investment Policy.

Department reported Friday, August 12, that Ramirez was reportedly struck by a 2020 GMC Sierra and taken to the hospital but did not survive her injuries.

LaVere said Ramirez’s loss to the Board of Supervisors is the understatement of the century.

“Carmen and I were together most of the day yesterday at the Coastal Commission, and we were talking before the Commission over coffee and exchanging notes about how each of us experienced a lot of loss in our personal lives,” he said. “For me to get that call last night that Carmen had been in a bad wreck, it felt like a bad dream, and it still feels like a bad dream.”

LaVere said when he returned to Ventura County as a young lawyer in 2006, he got to know Carmen as the legal warrior that spent decades fighting for people who couldn’t afford a lawyer and dedicated her entire career to that fight.
