Ventura-- The Ventura County Redistricting Meeting continues with public comments, starting with Jeremy Meyer, who said he supports map two because it keeps communities of interest together while supporting the Voting Rights Act.
Lucas Zucker said structurally speaking, the maps follow along with one of two paths.
“One path for many maps is to split Camarillo and put some in the east county, and the other path is to keep Camarillo whole, but split Thousand Oaks and put Moorpark in the west county,” he said. “If done right, either of these paths can create two strong districts for Latino voters, but redistricting always comes with tradeoffs. You can make Camarillo unhappy, or you can make Moorpark and Thousand Oaks unhappy.”
He noted that Moorpark, Camarillo, and Thousand Oaks have some of the highest levels of voter turnout. “No matter how districts are drawn, any supervisor would be unwise to ignore their needs,” he said. “Community Map version two, uploaded to DistrictR, has been adjusted based on the last hearing.
