Oxnard-- At approximately 12:11 P.M. on April 20, 2026, Oxnard police officers responded to several calls for service regarding a 45-year-old male subject in possession of a machete and swinging it in Saviers Road and Pleasant Valley Road. Once officers arrived on scene, they contacted the subject, who was inside a business.
Officers verbally engaged the subject in an effort to gain his compliance. The officers then gave commands to the subject, and he did not comply. An officer-involved shooting occurred. After the officer-involved shooting, the subject remained uncooperative and failed to comply with officers’ commands. A police service dog was deployed, and the subject was taken into custody.
Officers and EMS personnel rendered aid to the subject. He was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center and is currently listed in critical but stable condition.
The police officer was not injured. The police service dog sustained minor injuries and was treated.
The police officer’s bodyworn camera captured the entire incident. The Oxnard Police Department will share footage in a Community Critical Incident Debriefing, with a release date yet to be determined.
