Valdez advocates water equity and access

Oxnard-- Vanessa Valdez is running for the Calleguas Municipal Water District 4, which was born from the inspir­ation she received from fallen County Supervisor Carmen Ramirez.

SHE wants to continue honoring

Ra­­mirez by en­su­ring that Oxnard has adequate representation in the District.

Valdez hopes to make implemented policies more equitable and amplifies the community’s most vulnerable voices.

“More needs to be done to make sure that water policies are being implemented in a more equitable way,” she said. “As a lawyer, I enjoy analyzing the legalese on particular issues, so I can confidently say the United States has a well-developed legal and regulatory framework that governs the quality and provisions of water at the Federal and State level. Despite these measures, disadvantaged communities of color are disproportionately bearing the health and financial impacts, and inadequate access to safe water.”

She said Jackson, Mississippi is a perfect example of a disaster.

“It’s the most recent one in a long line with water crises in communities where residents are disproportionately low income and people of color,” she said.
