Ventura—The City of Ventura welcomed Barbara Brown and Christy Weir to its Tuesday, March 25 meeting, who came to discuss the Ventura Tree Alliance.
BROWN stated that there was a significant loss of trees due to the combined effects of the Thomas Fire, Bark Beetle infestation, and drought.
“Our goal was to revitalize Ventura’s Tree Canopy,” Brown said. “Since 2021, we’ve planted 245 trees and raised over $81,000 in funding for trees grants and donations.”
The Alliance has engaged over 1,500 volunteers.
“We have engaged 1,500 partners, and the City of Ventura is one of our most important partners,” she said. “Without Ventura, we could not plant trees on public property. ”
The Alliance received four grants: two from Sacramento and two clean-air grants.
She said they won several awards, the Best Urban Forestry Project from the California Urban Forest Council, and the County of Ventura’s Earth Day Award for Excellence and Environmental Stewardship.

Brown said the group’s first project began with the Citizens for the Preservation of Our Hillside.
